In 1924, Two students from Glad Tiding Bible Institute, Guy Renfro and Leonard H. Rogers came to Modesto to work for the summer. They wanted to start a Pentecostal church in a small town. Since Riverbank had no Pentecostal church in the town, they decided to start one. They rented the old Legion Hall for Sunday services. This required a lot of work getting the place ready for the service each Sunday morning because the hall was used for dances every Saturday night. When fall school term came, Guy and Leonard went back to Bible School in San Francisco, but returned every Saturday and Sunday to pastor their new church in Riverbank. There were many hard times and discouraging experiences in the early days, but the small faith group stayed together, determined to be a blessing and inspiration to the community. They elected a church board and voted to raise money to buy their own building. The congregation, that consists of 10 families, each donated $5 for the down payment on the old coffee building, which was abandoned. Together the five board members borrowed $600 to purchase the building and enough lumber to make benches, a pulpit, altar, and platform. This is the same location where the church stands today.
